Obituary of Hilda Tietz: Hilda Tietz, age 100, passed away at the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem on February 25, 2008 after residing there for the past 16 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, February 28, at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin. Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at New Leipzig. Special music will be provided by Marcy Haase.

Serving as casketbearers are Curt Tietz, Kevin Tietz, Larry Friedt, Casey Friedt, Virgil Smith, and Cindi Roberson.

Hilda was born April 24, 1907 to Nathaniel and Louise (Schmied) Haase in New Leipzig, ND. She attended a local country school near her home. On October 17, 1929, she was united in marriage to Edward Tietz at the Lutheran Church in New Leipzig with Rudolph Heupel, officiating. They purchased the Peter Weikum place north of New Leipzig where they farmed and ranched for many years. They retired in 1970 and moved into New Leipzig. Edward passed away on March 17, 1986. She continued to live in her home in New Leipzig. Hilda entered the Elm Crest Manor in 1992.

Surviving family members include her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Milton and Delores Tietz, New Leipzig, ND; Clarence and Helen Tietz, Bismarck, ND; 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Curtis, and Tim Tietz; Cindi Roberson, Linda Bekhtyar, Brenda Friedt; 8 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Pauline Hertz, Fargo, ND; Ester Hochhalter, New Leipzig, ND; and 1 sister-in-law, Ella Haase, Elgin, ND. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward, daughter-in-law, Bernetta Tietz, 4 sisters, Louise Krause, Rebecca Haase, Martha Buchwitz, Ida Baesler; 4 brothers, Adam, Dan, John, and Otto Haase.
