Herbert Tietz, 84, of Missoula, died Friday, June 21 at the Village Health Care Center. Services are pending and will be announced by Livingston-Malletta and Geraghty Funeral Home.

Herbert Tietz MISSOULA — On Friday, June 21, Herbert Tietz went to meet his Lord. He was born on Jan 9, 1912, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Emmanuel and Elizabeth Tietz. He came to Missoula in 1934 and married Edna Baier here on May 29, 1938. He retired after 40 years with the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads. After his retirement, the couple enjoyed many years wintering in Arizona with family and friends. In addition to his grandchildren, Herbert enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and carpentry. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna; a son, Norman and his wife Norma of Helena; daughters Judith Kidder and husband Roy of Kila, Dorothy Weaver and her husband Jerry of Seattle, and Joyce Harvey of Tacoma, Wash.; brothers Rueben Tietz and his wife Helen of Lake Hughes, Calif., and Otto and Harold Tietz, both of Missoula; sister Hildegarde Sellner of Missoula, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Albert, and a sister, Esther Lager. Visitation will be at the Livingston-Malletta and-Geraghty Funeral Home from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Mark Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Missoula or to the First Lutheran Church, where Herbert was a member for 58 years.

MISSOULA — Hildcgarde Dietz- Sellner. 79, of Missoula, died of natural causes Saturday, July 27. She was born July 8, 1917, in New Leipzig, N.D., to Emmanuel and Elizabeth Tietz. She lived with her family on a farm south of Elgin, N.D., and attended a one-room school nearby. On May 30, 1937, she married Rueben Dietz and later moved to the Missoula area. After a stay in California during World War Il, the couple resided in Missoula, where she and the family were active members of First Lutheran Church. For many years she taught Sunday school and was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and other church activities. She enjoyed homemaking, family and church, and took pleasure in her German heritage, She was an active member of the Missoula German Club. Her husband Rueben preceded her in death in 1982, She was married to William Sellner from 1985 until his death in 1993. Survivors include two children, Rodney Dietz of Missoula and Gloria Campagnone of Rex, Ga.; three brothers, Otto Tietz of Missoula, Rueben Tietz of Lake Hughes, Calif., and Harold Tietz of Missoula; and four grandchildren, Wayne Dietz, Kelly Dietz, Tina Arceneaux and Aaron Campagnone. Visitation will be noon - 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ray Wiegart officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Tietz, Wayne Dietz, Aaron Campagnone, Margie Braddy, Tina Arceneaux and Kelly Dietz. MISSOULA — Otto Tietz, 83, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Patrick Hospital of complications from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. He was born Feb. 17, 1914, in New Leipzig, N.D., a son of Emanuel Tietz and Elizabeth Ganthner. He shared his early years on the family farm with four brothers, Herbert, Ernest, Rueben, and Harold, and two sisters, Esther and Hildegarde. Otto came to Missoula with his brother Herbert in 1934. He was employed as a track supervisor by the Northern Pacific and later the Burlington Northern railroads until his retirement in 1972. He also owned Tietz Building Service and was a respected and successful home-builder in Missoula for 25 years. For the last 30 years, Otto was passionately involved in breeding and racing some of the finest quarter horses in the country. Anyone who ever "bet the ponies" at the Western Montana Fair and Race Meet most likely bet on an Otto Tietz horse. He was married to Erna Baier on Sept. 17, 1937. He is survived by his sons, Gene Tietz and wife Angie of Keizer, Ore., and Arlyn Tietz and wife Jan of Missoula; daughter Beverly Wood-Back and husband Ken Back of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, Troy, Elisabeth, and Holly Wood of Olympia, Mark Tietz of Reston, Va., Theresa Markham of Albany, Ore., and Justin and Renee Tietz of Missoula; and great- grandchildren Crystalle Wood, Adam Moody and Teddy Phillips of Olympia. He is also survived by two brothers, Rueben Tietz of Lake Hughes, Calif., and Harold Tietz of Missoula; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Albert, Ernest, and Herbert; and sisters Esther Lager and Hildegarde Dietz-Sellner. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Garden City Funeral Home. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula. Following the interment, a reception will he held in the community room at the funeral home. ln lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp-Mak-A-Dream or the Special Olympics Equestrian team from Missoula, c/o P.O. He was born in Elgin, N.D., Aug. 2, 1923, and moved to Missoula in 1945. He was a longtime builder and a real estate broker in Missoula.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; son, Bob of Missoula; daughters, Linda (Brian) Reilly of Hamilton, Jo Ann (Terry) Best of Bonner and Mary (Rick) Langlotz of Lake Hughes, Calif.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He and Helen recently returned to Missoula to live at Clark Fork Riverside after living in Lake Hughes for 15 years. Rueben cherished his large and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at First Lutheran Church, 2808 South Ave. W. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Rueben Tietz Memorial Fund at First Lutheran Church.
