Note:

John Tietz 1879 – 1945 (Newspaper clipping) This community was shocked and grieved last Thursday afternoon , May 15, when word reached town of the sudden death of John Tietz, one of the leading farmer living 13 miles north of New Leipzig since 1899 and who retired and moved to town in November, 1943.

Mr. Tietz has not been in the best of health for about two years, but was quite active and just a few hours before his death drove to his farm to assist in burning weeds. It was while at this task he suddenly collapsed and passed away almost immediately, suffering an acute heart attack.

Deceased was one of the more progressive farmers, worked hard and weathered pour crops, making a success of his work. He came here as a young man, from S. Russia, homesteaded here and, with the help of his young wife whom he married in S. Russia, and who survives her husband, carved out a real American home in which he successfully raised a large family of seven sons and five daughters. He was respected and honored by all his neighbors and friends and his passing leaves a sad vacancy in the community which cannot be filled.

OBITUARY John Tietz was born in S. Russia on January 24, 1879 and died May 15,, 1945, being 66 years, 3 months and 21 days of age.

On March 11, 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Treichel and came that same year to America. Thirteen children were born to this union and twelve survive. Besides his wife, who resides in New Leipzig, the following children remain to mourn their father’s passing: Reinhold, Robert, Edward, Arthur and Theodore, all in New Leipzig: Oscar, serving with the U.S.Army in Germany and Rev. Albert, Toledo, Ohio; Mrs. Bertha Zeissler, Sacramento, Calif.; Mrs. Mary Kautz and Mrs. Elsie Hintz of New Leipzig; Mrs. Helen Iszler, Martin, Montana; and Mrs. Edna Roy, Wichita Falls ,Texas. Twenty-two grand children and four great-grandchildren are also among those who mourn.

Funeral services will be held at the German Lutheran Church in New Leipzig Monday, May 21, at 2:00 and burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery east of town. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

(Another Obituary) John Tietz, son of Johann Tietz Sr. and Karolina Jeskie was born January 24, 1879 at Leipzig, South Russia. On March 11, 1899 he married Amelia Treichel at Tarutino, Sourth Russia. Was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith in South Russia.

John Tietz Sr., died in 1901. He was buried north of New Leipzig near the Gottlieb Baesler Sr. home. The year 1978 his remains were moved to the Lutheran Cemetery southeast of New Leipzig.

Caroline Tietz was born February 27, 1859. Passed away in 192_?. Laid to rest at the New Leipzig Cemetery southeast of town.

They left for the United States after the wedding. They were aboard a ship which took 3 months to arrive in the United States. Arrived in June of 1899 and farmed 13 miles north of New Leipzig. They spent time south of Glen Ullen until they were able to make a homestead. The fall of 1943 they moved to the town of New Leipzig.
