Obituary:

Al passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 27, after a brief struggle with lung cancer.

He was born Oct. 30, 1930, to Elizabeth Josephine and Stephan Ligas Kasparek in Seward, Neb. He was the youngest of five boys, and also had four sisters. Al grew up on the plains of Nebraska, and learned to hunt and fish at an early age. These two activities were constant companions throughout his life, and he relished any chance he got to be a part of God’s natural beauty.

Al served in the U.S. Armed Forces from February 1951 to September 1956, with one of those years being spent in Munich, Germany.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Al worked in various industries around Oregon, including plywood mills, construction and finally real estate investing. He attended Lane Community College and received an associate’s degree to become a machinist.

Al was preceded in death by his father, Stephan; his mother, Elizabeth; and brothers Steven and Bernard. He is survived by his brothers Ed Kasparek of Corvallis and Ted Kasparek of Lake Oswego; sisters Mary Dowless of Corvallis, Martie Billings of Vancouver, Wash., Angie Tietz of Keizer, and Patricia Kasparek of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations in Al’s name can be directed to Benton Hospice Service or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father John Henderson will officiate. Online condolences can be made via www.mchenryfuneralhome.com.
